Prof.Esron Karimuribo

Head - DMS
INTRODUCTION
The Department of Medical Sciences (DMS) is one of the eight departments that exist at the College of Veterinary and Medical Sciences (CVMS) at SUA.

Establishment of this department was officially approved by the University Council in June 2016 to spearhead development of CVMS to offer quality training, research and services in medical sciences.

This is in line with the national vision of having a community with good health and social welfare to contribute to sustainable development of the country. Currently DMS is committed to contributing to the CVMS vision and mission at SUA.

WHY WE EXIST
Conception of ideas on establishment of DMS was driven by our long experience and enough human resources and facilities at the former Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM) in supporting training and research in medical-related areas.

For long time, FVM has been a dependable source of human resources offering medical training at other higher education institutions in Tanzania and East African region.

We have reputation in producing graduates who excelled in their employments at different medical research institutions in the country including the National Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) and Ifakara Health Institute (IHI).

OUR VISION
Our departmental vision is to be a centre of excellence in training and research in medicine, medical care and health services.

RESEARCH
Over a period of more than 10 years, academic members of CVMS have attracted research funds and conducted medical-related research activities particularly in the area of One Health approaches.
