Welcome to College of Veterinary and Medical Sciences

This website highlights the main activities of the college with the aim of ensuring excellence in provision of knowledge and understanding of animal and human diseases. It is my hope that you will be able to access relevant information in this website either for business, academic or social reasons, or as a client or researcher, as a prospective student or a graduate. Introduction

The Veterinary education in East Africa started in 1942 in Makerere College which was affiliated to University of London in 1959, this Veterinary school shifted from Uganda (Makerere University) to Kenya and 1962 the School was incorporative into University Collage of Nairobi, Kabete Campus. Later the school was elevated to Nairobi Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 1972 and started to award the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine. In Tanzania the Veterinary Education started when the division of Veterinary Science was established under the Faculty of Agriculture and Forest of University of Dar es Salaam 1976. After establishment of Sokoine University of Agriculture, the Division of Veterinary Science was elevated to form the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Initially the Faculty was offering the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) which was later changed to Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM). Currently, in addition to BVM the Facultyalso offer the Bachelor of Biotechnology and Laboratory Science (BLS) and postgraduate degrees at Masters and PhD Levels.
The Vision of the College of Veterinary and Medical Sciences is to become an international recognized centre of excellence and valued member of the Veterinary Education and allied sciences in view to promote socioeconomic development through practical skills, entrepreneurship, research and integration of basic and applied knowledge in solving societal challenges.
The College of Veterinary and Medical Sciences has a-threefold Mission; training, research and provision of consultancy, advisory services and patient care to a broad range of clients in public and private sectors.

Teaching Animal Hospital

The College of Veterinary and Medical Sciences has an Animal Teaching Hospital which plays a key role in the education of veterinary students, teaching them the very latest concepts and techniques in a caring and supportive environment to become the best veterinarians of tomorrow. Also the hospital provides advanced diagnostics and care to patients of all animal species in and outside the country. The hospital offers medical and surgical care for dogs, cats, birds and exotic pets. Sophisticated diagnostic imaging capabilities, modern surgical suites, an intensive care unit and a spectrum of cutting edge technologies assist our clinicians in the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and complex diseases affecting animals. Our veterinarians are among the best in the world, and most importantly, they hold your animal’s well-being as their top priority.

The Animal Hospital- offers state-of-the-art patient care for dogs, cats, birds, exotic pets, cattle, goats, sheep and pigs and other farm animals.

VETCONSULT

Sokoine University of Agriculture Veterinary Advisory and Consultancy Services herein and thereafter referred to as SUAVET CONSULT, is the consultancy wing of the College of Veterinary and Medical Sciences , Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Morogoro, Tanzania. The College of Veterinary and Medical Sciences as part of the University has a legal status of a body corporate established by Act of Parliament number 6 of 1984. The College is the only institution providing tertiary university education in veterinary medicine and allied sciences including wildlife and aquaculture in Tanzania. SUAVET CONSULT has therefore unmatched capacity in human and infrastructure resources.
